One of the many advantages of living in Fort Worth and the surrounding Tarrant County cities is the abundance of energetic volunteers who give so freely of their time and resources to enrich lives and make a difference in the community.
Many ladies with “hearts as big as Texas” volunteer with their friends to raise charitable dollars and support artistic and civic endeavors throughout the county.
It was in recognition of this dedication that The Arts League (a fund raising arm of ARTSNET) established a program to honor outstanding women volunteers in North Tarrant County whose extraordinary vision and selfless giving stood out in the hearts and minds of their peers.
Since 1996, The Arts League has held an annual luncheon to recognize outstanding women volunteers nominated by their local organizations as their “Shining Stars”. Twenty-seven Shining Stars from 26 organizations were honored at this year’s luncheon.
Since this is an “artsy” event, funds are raised through the sale of wonderful art contributed by local artists. The art was juried and there were between 45 to 50 entries this year. In addition to the art auction, there was a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle.
Proceeds from the event went to ARTSNET to fund grants and support worthy programs benefiting the community. ARTSNET’s Masterworks series is scheduled to present more than 100 concerts this year, open to the public and free of charge. ARTSNET just completed a Summer Arts College for 252 children, 61 of whom received scholarships sponsored by The Arts League through ARTSNET. The goal is to ensure no child is turned away.
Tracy Kornet, CBS 11 and TXA 21, emceed this year’s Shining Stars luncheon and noted pianist, Danny Wright, provided the entertainment.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Lexus Dealers were this year’s Presenting Sponsor. The event also enjoyed the support of several prestigious sponsors and donors who help raise funds for the Arts. According to Event Chair, Renova Williams, another visible measure of success is seeing the tremendous pride and excitement when these dedicated ladies gather together to honor their own.
The 12th annual luncheon was held at the Marriott Las Colinas, Irving, Friday, October 24, 2008. The reception started at 10:30 am with the luncheon beginning at 12 noon.
